Grilling Russet Potatoes

Nothing accompanies grilled meat better than grilled potatoes. Russet potatoes are often the potato of choice when it comes to grilling. There are actually three different methods that can be used for grilling Russet potatoes.

One method that can be used for grilling Russet potatoes involves placing the potatoes directly onto the grill. With this method for grilling Russet potatoes, you will need to make sure that you use a combination of indirect and direct heat. In addition, the banks should be kept banked in order that one side of your grill is colder than the other side. If you use a gas grill, make sure that the heat is higher on one side than on the other side. You can also keep the grill covered for a little while in order to ensure that the potatoes are cooked all of the way through. Coating the potatoes with a bit of oil can help to ensure the moisture stays sealed.

Another method for grilling Russet potatoes is to par cook them first. This can be done by simmering them in water first and then draining the potatoes well. The main goal here is to ensure that the potatoes are pre-cooked until they have reached the point that they are just tender but not fully cooked. Avoid over-cooking the potatoes so that you can finish them on the grill.

Yet another method that you can use for grilling Russet potatoes is to cook them inside a packet. A simple foil packet can be used for this method. The foil packet works to create the steam that is necessary for the potatoes to be cooked and yet maintain their moisture. If you want to make sure that the potatoes have additional flavor, you can also add oils, spices or any seasonings that you prefer. To make sure that the potatoes cook evenly, make sure that the potatoes are spread out on the grill evenly. There are numerous advantages to using this method for grilling Russet potatoes. First, the clean-up is extremely fast and the potatoes can be kept off the grill for several minutes and still stay warm while you are finishing up the rest of the meal.

All three methods for grilling Russet potatoes will provide you with excellent results. Be sure to choose a method that will meet your needs and your time constraints in order to deliver a delicious side dish to your grilled meal.
